An insignificant sky, without shape or color,

Spreads warmly over the roofs of the city;

I feel its feverish vapors emanating

An artificial charm and deceptive dreams.


I suffocate under the weight of the torments of summer,

I am bored in the midst of the noisy crowd,

I curse the sun, the blinding light,

The agitation, the world and the festivities.


I can no longer bear this day of heatwave

And while a banal twilight begins

Melancholically I think and I see again


The winding path which, through the brambles,

Ventures, gets lost and gently sinks

Into the damp and cool half-light of the undergrowth.
